Nel is a West Australian aerialist and performing artist, who has performed at festivals and special events across Europe, Asia and Australia suspended from cranes, trees, tall sailing ships, churches and high ceilings for the past 7 years. She is also a rigger and accomplished stilt performer, presenting tall ladies “Miss Scarlet Heart” and “Lady Bloom”. She currently performs “Silent Partner“, a stilt puppetry street theatre show with circus company Bizircus. Over the past 6 years she has been an associate of Spare Parts Puppet theatre, performing in five puppetry productions. She recently designed and directed Transfaunas - an outdoor spectacle at the Unima International Puppet Festival in association with SWERVE arts as part of The garden of aussie delights presented on Carnival Day at the perth Concert hall.
Nel’s working life oscillates between performing, teaching, rigging and directing for productions involving theatre, circus and aerial installation. She currently teaches the aerial stream for WAAPA (West Australian Academy of Performing Arts) and is the aerial tutor for Annie Steiner’s “Total Theatre” physical theatre school. She is an accomplished practitioner for community and cultural development, particularly following her work over the past 6 years with “Messenger Project”. During the past 2 years Nel has worked for Circus Oz, Black Swan Theatre Company, Theatre Kimberley, Southern Edge Arts, Perth International Arts Festival, SWERVE arts and toured in Hong Kong, Spain and Germany. Other highlights of her working life include crossing 7 Australian deserts as a cameleer and campfire chef. She is currently developing a new aerial theatre show called “Woman Incognito”.
